MSAS joins Central States Archaeological Society!

Dear MSAS Members,

This has been a very exciting year for our organization! Our membership numbers have exceeded the numbers of our past two years, our shows have seen record attendance, and now…

I am proud to announce that starting January of 2008 the MSAS will be a chapter of the Central States Archaeological Society! This will finally place Mississippi's own archaeological society into the roll of nationally recognized state archaeological societies! It has taken us 3 full years to accomplish this goal, but you have helped to make this happen through your continued support for the MSAS!

What does this mean for you as a member of the MSAS? Starting 2008 each current member of the MSAS will also be a member of the CSAS. This means you will continue to receive your full color newsletter along with information of finds and events from the MSAS, but now you will also receive four Central States Archaeological Journals per year, the leading archaeological publication in the United States.

If you are already a member of the CSAS through another state organization and wish to continue your CSAS membership you can now do so by paying your archaeological society dues through the MSAS. Dues are only $21 per year (the same as the other CSAS state societies).

For those MSAS members who are from outside the state of Mississippi and are already members of the CSAS through your state's organization but would like to remain a member of the MSAS and continue to receive your annual full color MSAS newsletter dues will remain $10 per year. Also if you are a Mississippi member of the MSAS and do not wish to receive your annual CSAS Journal your dues will also remain $10 per year. (If you wish to choose this membership option please add a note to inform the MSAS treasurer when you send in your dues.)

If you have not already renewed your MSAS dues for 2008 now is the time. This is the last issue of the MSAS newsletter for the year 2007. To make sure you receive all of 2008's MSAS newsletters and CSAS Journals on time you should renew now by sending your annual dues of $21 to:

MSAS
59 Bullock Road
Seminary, MS 39479

If you have already paid your dues for 2008, thank you, and enjoy the benefits of your 2008 MSAS membership!

Thank you all, again for another great year! I look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming 2008 Meridian artifact show and MSAS business meeting!

Sincerely,

Scott R. Fears

MSAS President
